⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 9/10 THE SUMMARY Before the MCU was even a thought, we had Blade. Half-human, half-vampire, and fully loaded with silver stakes, Eric Brooks spends his nights "recycling" the undead in Los Angeles. He’s the Daywalker, possessed of all their strengths and none of their weaknesses, except for the thirst. Alongside his tech-wizard mentor Whistler, Blade uncovers a plot by a young, arrogant vampire named Deacon Frost who wants to bypass the old-school rules and summon a blood god called La Magra to turn humanity into a global cattle farm. THE PROS Wesley Snipes is epic status; he doesn't just play Blade, he becomes him with a quality, stone-faced intensity that defines the character. The opening "Blood Rave" sequence is a total win and remains one of the best introductions in cinema history—it sets a punchy tone that doesn't let up. The world-building is quality, blending modern urban grit with ancient vampire lore. It’s a 9/10 because it proved that R-rated comic book movies could actually work, paving the way for everything that followed. Stephen Dorff as Deacon Frost is a winner, playing the villain with a punchy, punchable arrogance that makes the final showdown very satisfying. THE CONS It misses a 10/10 because the final CGI for the blood god effects hasn't aged well at all; it looks a bit quality-deficient and rubbery compared to the practical gore used earlier in the film. The pacing can feel slightly sluggish during the middle act when it dives deep into the "vampire archives" lore. Also, some of the 90s "techno-babble" is a bit of a damp squib by today's standards. THE VERDICT A 9/10. Epic status and highly recommended for anyone who likes their action with a bit of bite. It’s a winner for the choreography and the moody atmosphere. Before this, they had a string of low-budget disasters like the 1990 'Captain America', so 'Blade' is essentially the godfather of the modern superhero era.• Real Skills: Wesley Snipes is a 5th-degree black belt in Shotokan Karate and a 2nd-degree black belt in Hapkido. He did almost all of his own stunts and worked closely with the fight coordinators to ensure the swordplay looked authentic and lethal.• Hidden Menus: During the scene where Dr. Karen Jenson is looking at the computer screens in Blade's hideout, the scrolling text isn't medical data—it’s a hidden sushi recipe. This became the first instance of the legendary VFX "sushi code" that was later used in 'X-Men' and 'Spider-Man'. THE VIBE Like a leather trench coat in a rainstorm. It smells like gunpowder, garlic, and 90s underground club music.
