⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Directed by the Danny and Michael Philippou (the duo behind Talk to Me), this is a high-concept supernatural thriller that deals with the messy, dangerous side of grief. After a tragic accident claims the life of a beloved family member, a group of desperate relatives discovers a ritual that claims to "bring her back" from the dead. Of course, the version of her that returns isn't exactly the person they buried. As the veil between worlds thins, the family realizes that some doors, once opened, are impossible to shut. It’s a fast-paced, visceral look at how far people will go to fix the unfixable. THE PROS The Philippou brothers bring that same gritty, energetic directing style that made their debut a hit, making every scare feel fresh and honest. The lead performance is a total standout, capturing a sincere sense of desperation that makes the characters' questionable choices feel believable. It’s a 7/10 because the first part of the movie sets up the emotional stakes perfectly, ensuring you’re actually invested in the family before the chaos kicks off. The practical effects are spot on—they’re gross, tactile, and far more effective than a CGI monster. There’s a punchy, modern edge to the dialogue that avoids typical horror clichés and keeps the vibe feeling grounded and gripping.
