⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 9/10 THE SUMMARY Teddy (Jesse Plemons) is a down-on-his-luck beekeeper and hardcore conspiracy theorist who is absolutely certain that an alien race from Andromeda is sabotaging the Earth. Along with his cousin Don, he kidnaps Michelle Fuller (Emma Stone), the high-powered CEO of a pharmaceutical giant, convinced she’s actually an alien empress planning a planetary wipeout. They lock her in a basement to "interrogate" her using some truly grotty methods, but the line between paranoid delusion and terrifying reality begins to blur. It’s a pitch-black comedy and psychological thriller that asks how far someone will go when they’re convinced the world is about to end. THE PROS Yorgos Lanthimos has delivered another winner that is pure quality from start to finish. Jesse Plemons is epic status as Teddy; he plays the "delusional loser" with such a sincere and honest intensity that you almost start to believe his wild theories. Emma Stone is a total standout as Michelle, managing to be both terrifying and vulnerable as she tries to manipulate her captors using corporate psychology. It’s a 9/10 because the chemistry between the three leads is gripping, and the way the film balances hilarious, absurd dialogue with genuine moments of horror is a masterclass. The visual style is absolute quality, making the cramped basement feel like the most dangerous place on Earth. It’s a winner because it keeps you guessing until a final reveal that is both shocking and visually stunning. THE CONS It earns a 9/10 because the first part is incredibly intense and might be a bit of a tough watch for some, especially during the more grotty "interrogation" scenes.
