⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 4/10 THE SUMMARYInfamous director Uwe Boll attempts a 21st-century take on Death Wish, casting a disgraced Armie Hammer as a wealthy American businessman living in Croatia. After his mother is murdered by a violent offender, he snaps, tracking down criminals, rapists, and corrupt judges. Recording his executions, his brutal campaign explodes across social media, turning him into an online folk hero while a gritty Interpol chief closes in on his position. THE PROSIf you go into this looking for pure, unadulterated B-movie trash, the action sequences have a raw, mean-spirited grit to them. It completely avoids the slick, glossy Hollywood style, opting instead for a cold, bleak European aesthetic that fits the miserable tone. Costas Mandylor puts in a decent, professional shift as the world-weary cop chasing the killer, providing the only real anchor of stability in the entire production. THE CONSThe film is a total mess that values cheap, political shock value over clever writing. It handles incredibly sensitive, real-world social tensions with the subtlety of a brick to the face, turning what could have been a sharp psychological thriller into a hollow, controversial power fantasy. The dialogue is painfully clunky, and Armie Hammer looks completely lost, delivering a flat, wooden performance that completely fails to capture the complex charisma needed for a compelling anti-hero. THE VERDICTA weak 4/10. It is a cynical, clunky piece of exploitation cinema that is far more interested in generating angry headlines than delivering a good story. It scrapes a 4 purely because the physical action choreography is competent and the brief runtime means it does not completely overstay its welcome. It misses a higher score because the plotting is lazy, the acting is incredibly stiff, and the whole thing feels like a desperate cry for attention.
