⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY "Big Nick" O'Brien is a gritty, hard-drinking detective leading a unit of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department. They’re up against a crew of ex-military specialists who have their sights set on the ultimate score: the Federal Reserve Bank. It’s an elite team of thieves against a unit of cops who aren't afraid to break the law to catch them. The film builds toward a massive heist in downtown L.A. that turns into a chaotic urban battlefield. THE PROS The action is punchy and the gunfights are some of the best filmed in years. It feels like a modern tribute to 'Heat' but with more muscle. Gerard Butler is a belter as Big Nick—he’s sweaty, unlikable, and totally immersive. The heist itself is epic; it’s a smart, layered plan that actually makes sense. It’s a good movie because it avoids being a generic thriller by making the "bad guys" just as interesting and tactically smart as the cops. THE CONS At 140 minutes, the pacing can feel sluggish in the middle when it dives into the domestic drama of Nick’s failing marriage. Some of the character development for the wider crew is a bit thin, making it hard to tell a few of the burly, bearded blokes apart. It misses the 9/10 mark because it leans heavily on genre tropes we’ve seen before, but it does them well enough that it’s still a win. THE VERDICT An 8/10. A good movie and a total recommendation if you want a loud, tactical heist flick. It’s a belter for a Friday night. Go and watch it for the final shootout and the clever twist at the end—it’s a winner. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Rivalry on Set: To create a genuine sense of tension, the actors playing the cops and the actors playing the robbers were put into two separate training boot camps so they wouldn't bond before filming.• Commitment to the Role: Gerard Butler gained about 30 pounds for the film to give Big Nick a more "washed-up and bloated" look. He reportedly ate so much that he felt physically ill during production.• Real World Numbers: The film claims Los Angeles is the bank robbery capital of the world with 2,400 hits a year. In reality, the actual number is much lower, but the filmmakers bumped it up to make the city feel like a constant war zone. THE VIBE Like a heavy-duty workout in a hot garage. It smells like gunpowder, cheap coffee, and diesel exhaust.
