⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Based on the eerie short story by Elizabeth Bear, this is a sleek, courtroom-based sci-fi thriller that feels like a high-stakes episode of Black Mirror. Florence Pugh stars as Dolly, a high-end "companion" android who is accused of murdering her billionaire owner in a locked room. The catch? The legal system has to decide if Dolly is a malfunctioning appliance or a sentient being capable of intent. Vanessa Kirby plays the ambitious lawyer tasked with defending her, leading to a tense, cerebral battle over what it actually means to be alive in a world where tech is starting to look and feel exactly like us. THE PROS Florence Pugh is fantastic as Dolly, delivering a performance that is uncomfortably robotic one second and heartbreakingly human the next. Vanessa Kirby is equally sharp, bringing a cold, calculating energy to the courtroom scenes that keeps the momentum high. It’s a 7/10 because the first part of the movie sets up a fascinating legal puzzle that actually makes you think about future ethics without feeling like a lecture. The production design is top-tier, using a clinical, minimalist aesthetic that makes the futuristic setting feel grounded and believable. There’s some punchy dialogue during the cross-examinations that feels honest and gripping, especially when the "rules" of robotics are picked apart.
