⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 3/10 THE SUMMARY Neil Marshall, the man behind classics like *Dog Soldiers*, returns with a gritty crime thriller that feels like it’s trying way too hard to be a Guy Ritchie flick. Charlotte Kirk stars as Scarlett, a small-time London pickpocket who falls for a suave diamond smuggler named Rob (Philip Winchester). After a deal in Tenerife goes south and Rob is killed, Scarlett transforms into "Duchess," a stone-cold boss out for blood. Backed by a crew of veteran hardmen, she goes on a continent-hopping revenge mission to take back what’s hers. It’s a loud, foul-mouthed, and ultra-violent ride that unfortunately values style over any actual substance. THE PROS The veteran supporting cast is the only real winner here. Having Sean Pertwee and Colm Meaney on screen is always high-quality, and they bring a sincere bit of weight to a script that otherwise struggles to stay afloat. Stephanie Beacham is also a legendary shout as a foul-mouthed crime queenpin, clearly having a blast in every scene. It earns a 3/10 because, for all its flaws, Marshall still knows how to film a punch-up; the action is honest, bloody, and features some "playfully gruesome" moments that horror fans might appreciate. If you turn your brain completely off, there’s a bit of campy, B-movie fun to be found in the over-the-top violence and the sun-soaked Canary Islands locations. THE CONS It lands a 3/10 because the dialogue is a total clanger, filled with "try-hard" swearing and Z-grade one-liners that feel incredibly quality-deficient. The middle part is sluggish, dragged down by an endless voiceover that explains every single thought Scarlett has, which makes the pacing a massive head-scratcher. It misses a higher mark because it leans too heavily on tired tropes—freeze-frames, record scratches, and title cards—that feel about twenty years out of date. Charlotte Kirk’s transformation from a petty thief to a world-class assassin is a bit of a slog to believe, and the film often feels more like a photoshoot for her various outfits than a sincere revenge story. It’s a bit of a disaster that confuses "loud yelling" for "good comedy." THE VERDICT A 3/10.
