⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 9/10 THE SUMMARY Picking up right where the first film left off, Paul Atreides and his mother Lady Jessica are now deep in the desert with the Fremen. As Paul adapts to the brutal lifestyle of Arrakis, he rises from a grieving son to a formidable warrior known as Muad'Dib. While he falls in love with the fierce Chani, he’s haunted by visions of a galactic holy war being fought in his name. Meanwhile, the Harkonnens unleash the psychopathic Feyd-Rautha to reclaim the spice fields. Paul must eventually choose between the woman he loves and the terrible fate of the universe, leading to a massive uprising against the Emperor and the Great Houses. THE PROS Denis Villeneuve has delivered a genuine belter that makes the first film look like a warm-up. The scale is epic status—especially the scenes of Paul riding a massive sandworm for the first time, which is pure quality cinema. Austin Butler is a winner as Feyd-Rautha; he’s absolutely terrifying and brings a sincere menace that was missing from the first installment. The Giedi Prime sequence, filmed in that punchy infrared black-and-white, is visually stunning and unlike anything else in modern sci-fi. It’s a 9/10 because the sound design and Hans Zimmer’s score will literally rattle your ribs in the best way possible. Zendaya also gets a lot more to do here, giving the story a grounded, human heart amidst all the "chosen one" madness. THE CONS It earns a 9/10 because the middle act, while visually incredible, can feel slightly sluggish as Paul and Jessica navigate the Fremen prophecies. Some of the political maneuvers involving the Emperor and Princess Irulan feel a bit rushed, serving more as setup for the future than fully-realized subplots in this film. It misses a 10/10 mark because the finale moves at such a breakneck speed that some of the weight of the massive battle is lost in the shuffle. Christopher Walken is quality, but he’s a bit underused as the Emperor, feeling like a damp squib compared to the looming threat he was built up to be. THE VERDICT A 9/10. Epic status and highly recommended—this is a cinematic experience that demands the biggest screen possible. A winner for its visuals, its sound, and its unflinching look at the cost of power. Go and watch it for the arena fight alone—it’s quality from start to finish. It is easily one of the most anticipated bits of home cinema for those who missed it in IMAX. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Infrared World: The monochromatic scenes on the Harkonnen homeworld, Giedi Prime, weren't made with a simple filter. Cinematographer Greig Fraser used modified Alexa 65 cameras to film in actual infrared light, which gives the characters' skin a translucent, alien texture that looks proper creepy.• Method Menace: Austin Butler didn't just play Feyd-Rautha; he spent months training in Kali martial arts and even changed his voice to sound more like Stellan Skarsgård’s Baron Harkonnen. He also improvised that unsettling kiss with the Baron, which caught everyone on set by surprise.• Makeup Marathon: Stellan Skarsgård spent 8 hours in the makeup chair every day to become the Baron. To avoid any unnecessary "breaks," he reportedly took Imodium and didn't drink any water for the entire shoot day. That is some sincere dedication to the craft. THE VIBE Like a sandstorm hitting a high-tech fortress. It smells like cinnamon, hot metal, and destiny.

THE SUMMARY

Austin Butler is a winner as Feyd-Rautha; he’s absolutely terrifying and brings a sincere menace that was missing from the first installment.
