⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY A pilot (Mel Gibson) is tasked with flying a federal agent (Michelle Dockery) and a high-stakes informant (Topher Grace) across the Alaskan wilderness to a trial. The tension spikes when it becomes clear that not everyone on the plane is who they claim to be. Locked in a small cockpit over a lethal landscape, a psychological game of cat-and-mouse turns into a fight for survival. It’s a contained, claustrophobic thriller that relies on a single location to keep the pressure high. THE PROS The film works best when it leans into the tight space of the aircraft. Topher Grace is great as the nervous informant, and Mel Gibson brings a gritty, unpredictable energy to the pilot's seat that keeps you guessing. It hits a 6 because the suspense is handled well; you can feel the isolation of the Alaskan mountains and the helplessness of being stuck at 10,000 feet with a potential killer. The pacing is tight, moving quickly from a quiet drama into a desperate struggle without wasting much time on the ground. THE CONS It struggles with a script that feels a bit thin. Once the big reveal happens, the mystery disappears and it becomes a fairly standard survival story. It stays at a 6 because some of the CGI during the flight sequences looks a bit rough, pulling you out of the gritty atmosphere the actors are working hard to create. It misses a higher score because the dialogue can be a bit clunky, and the ending feels rushed, like it ran out of fuel just as it reached the climax. THE VERDICT 6/10. A solid, one-time thriller that makes good use of its small cast and tight setting. It isn’t groundbreaking, but it’s an honest, tense watch if you like "bottle" movies where characters are trapped together. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • To make the cockpit scenes feel real, the production used a gimbal-mounted plane mock-up that allowed the actors to feel the actual tilt and vibration of a flight.• This marks a rare on-screen reunion for the cast and director Mark Wahlberg, who chose to stay behind the camera for this project to focus on the tension.• The film was shot in a way that emphasizes the scale of the Alaskan wild versus the tiny cabin, using wide shots of the landscape to make the characters feel even more vulnerable. THE VIBE Like trapped air in a pressurized cabin. It smells of stale coffee, aviation fuel, and the metallic tang of a cold cockpit lever.
