Overview

Sparks fly in all directions as marketing maven Kelly Jones, brought in to fix NASA's public image, wreaks havoc on Apollo 11 launch director Cole Davis' already difficult task of putting a man on the moon. ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Set against the high-stakes backdrop of the 1960s Space Race, this is a stylish romantic dramedy with a cynical twist. Scarlett Johansson stars as Kelly Jones, a sharp-tongued marketing genius brought in to fix NASA’s public image and sell the moon to the American people. She immediately clashes with Cole Davis (Channing Tatum), the straight-laced launch director who thinks her "selling" tactics are a mockery of their mission. When the White House deems the mission too important to fail, Kelly is tasked with staging a fake moon landing as a "Plan B," leading to a chaotic blend of romance, ethics, and rocket science. THE PROS Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum have a classic, old-school Hollywood chemistry that makes the banter feel effortless and fun. Johansson, in particular, is great as the fast-talking ad exec, bringing a sincere energy to a character who spends most of her life lying. It’s a 7/10 because the production design is incredible, capturing the vibrant, mid-century aesthetic of Cape Canaveral with a look that is polished and atmospheric. The movie does a solid job of balancing the lighthearted rom-com vibes with the genuine tension of the Apollo 11 mission. The first part of the film moves quickly, setting up a clever "what if" scenario that keeps you interested in how they’ll pull off the ultimate hoax. THE CONS It earns a 7/10 because the middle part is quite sluggish, stretching a relatively simple premise out to over two hours.
