⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY The Guardians are now heroes for hire, but their team dynamic is a bit of a mess. After a job for a gold-skinned race called the Sovereign goes south—thanks to Rocket’s light fingers—they’re rescued by Ego, a bearded celestial who claims to be Peter Quill's long-lost father. While Peter heads to a living planet to learn about his heritage, Yondu and his Ravagers are hired to hunt them down. It all leads to a massive emotional showdown as Peter realizes that while Ego might be his father, he definitely isn't his "daddy." THE PROS Michael Rooker as Yondu is a total win; his transition from a blue space-pirate to a tragic hero is epic status and provides the most sincere heart of the movie. Kurt Russell is quality as Ego, perfectly capturing that "cool dad" vibe before the mask slips. The opening credits sequence with Baby Groot dancing to "Mr. Blue Sky" is a winner and arguably the most charming start to any MCU flick. It’s an 8/10 because it dives deep into character growth, especially the bickering sisterhood of Gamora and Nebula. Drax and Mantis are pure quality comedy together—their blunt honesty is punchy and hilarious. THE CONS It earns an 8/10 because the middle act on Ego’s planet can feel slightly sluggish as they lean heavily into exposition about "The Expansion." The humor is quality, but it sometimes feels a bit overstuffed, with a few jokes being dragged out longer than needed. It misses a 9/10 mark because the Sovereign villains are a bit of a damp squib—they’re mostly just golden obstacles rather than a real threat. Also, the CGI on the "living planet" can feel a bit quality-deficient and overwhelming by the final battle. THE VERDICT An 8/10. A good movie and highly recommended for the emotional payoff. It’s a winner for Yondu’s redemption and the killer soundtrack. Go and watch it for the "I’m Mary Poppins, y’all!" line—it’s quality cinema. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Sensitive Nipple Tech: Dave Bautista’s Drax makeup took only 90 minutes to apply this time, down from the four hours it took for the first film. However, he still had a rough time; the joke about the jet pack straps hurting his "sensitive nipples" was actually based on Bautista's real-life complaints about the suit.• Deleted Posters: Nathan Fillion actually filmed a cameo as Simon Williams (Wonder Man). He was supposed to appear on several movie posters in the background on Earth, but the scene was cut to keep the pacing punchy.• Digital Dining: During the scenes on the Ravager ship and within the digital readouts of the Sovereign’s remote-piloted drones, the scrolling code contains a hidden sushi recipe—the favorite recurring easter egg of the VFX crew that has survived every installment of the trilogy. THE VIBE Like a bright, neon-colored firework. It smells like old cassette tapes, galaxy-dust, and cheap space-beer.
