⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 5/10 THE SUMMARY Cameron is a shy, outcast high school photographer in the sleepy town of Page Hollow, struggling to process his father's recent death. His life takes a dark turn when a string of gruesome murders shatters the community's peace. While exploring, Cameron discovers a hidden stash of old VHS tapes that seem to document the movements of a mysterious figure in a long red coat known as "The Pill"—a local urban legend linked to historical disappearances. As Cameron digs deeper into the tapes, he finds himself in a race against time, realizing that the killer is not only watching the town but has developed a personal obsession with him. THE PROS Jan Luis Castellanos is quality as Cameron, bringing a sincere vulnerability to the role of a grieving loner that makes you actually care if he survives. The film’s greatest win is the "swing set" sequence—a fog-shrouded, tense playground scene that is pure epic status and genuinely harrowing. Director Jordon Foss clearly has a love for the genre, peppering the film with punchy nods to slasher classics like 'Halloween' and 'Friday the 13th'. It’s a 5/10 because the "The Pill" is a visually creepy creation, and the kills are simple, brutal, and effective without relying on quality-deficient CGI. The sibling dynamic between Cameron and his sister Kathryn (Tiana Le) adds a grounded, human touch that most slashers lack. THE CONS It earns a 5/10 because the script is a bit of a damp squib when it comes to logic; characters make baffling decisions, like one person simply falling asleep in a van while a killer is on the loose nearby. The pacing can feel slightly sluggish, as the movie runs about fifteen minutes too long and spends a bit too much time on repetitive "teen angst" subplots. It misses a 6/10 mark because the finale is a bit quality-deficient, leaving the killer’s motives largely unexplained and feeling more like a checklist of tropes than a cohesive story. Some of the dialogue is clunky and over-the-top, making the bullies feel more like caricatures than real threats. THE VERDICT A 5/10.
