After a group of teens swipes a locket from a collapsed fire tower, they inadvertently resurrect Johnny, a rotting, undead powerhouse with a serious grudge. Instead of focusing on the victims, the camera follows Johnny in long, meditative takes as he trudges through the Ontario wilderness to reclaim his property. It’s an ambient horror that trades jump scares for a sense of inevitable, crushing dread and some of the most creative, stomach-churning kills in recent memory. THE PROS The perspective is a total winner; by keeping the camera tethered to Johnny, the film creates an atmosphere that feels more like a nature documentary about a predator than a standard slasher.
