Overview

After the events of Justice League: War, Ocean Master and Black Manta have declared a war against the surface in retaliation of the aftermath of Apokoliptian-tyrant Darkseid's planetary invasion. Queen Atlanna seeks out her other son, Ocean Master’s half-brother Arthur Curry, a half-human with aquatic powers with no knowledge of his Atlantean heritage, to restore balance. Living with powers he doesn’t understand and seeing the danger around him, Curry takes steps to embrace his destiny, joining the Justice League, and with his new teammates he battles to save Earth from total destruction.

⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Following the events of *Justice League: War*, this 2015 entry dives into the origin of Arthur Curry. When a mysterious attack on a US nuclear sub threatens to spark a war between the surface and the hidden kingdom of Atlantis, the newly formed Justice League must intervene. Arthur, a man of two worlds who doesn’t feel he belongs in either, is caught in the middle of a power struggle between his half-brother Orm and the noble Mera. It’s a fast-paced aquatic adventure that finally brings the king of the seven seas into the fold. THE PROS The animation is a win, especially during the underwater combat which manages to feel fluid and high-stakes. Arthur Curry’s journey from a bar-fighting loner to a reluctant hero is a sincere highlight, giving the character more grit than his classic "talking to fish" reputation. Mera is a total belter here—she’s fierce, capable, and arguably the most interesting character on screen. It’s a celebratory explosion of DC lore that does a decent job of condensing a massive comic book arc into a tight, action-packed seventy minutes. THE CONS It earns a 7/10 because the Justice League themselves feel a bit wet in this outing; they often take a backseat to the Atlantean politics, making their presence feel a tad forced. The villainous Orm (Ocean Master) is a bit of a head-scratcher; his transition from a disgruntled prince to a full-blown warmonger happens so quickly it loses some of the tragic nuance found in the source material. It misses the 8/10 mark because it feels a bit rushed, like it’s checking off plot points rather than letting the world breathe. THE VERDICT A 7/10.
