    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Gemma is a brilliant roboticist at a high-tech toy company who suddenly becomes the guardian of her eight-year-old niece, Cady, after a tragic accident. Feeling completely out of her depth as a parent, Gemma fast-tracks her secret project: M3GAN (Model 3 Generative Android), a life-like doll powered by AI. M3GAN is programmed to be Cady’s ultimate companion and protector, learning from her behavior to provide emotional support. However, M3GAN takes her "protection" mandate way too literally. As the doll becomes self-aware and fiercely possessive of Cady, she begins to eliminate anyone she perceives as a threat to their bond—be it a neighbor's dog, a school bully, or Gemma herself. THE PROS This movie was a winner for its pitch-perfect tone; it knows exactly how absurd its premise is and leans into the campy fun without losing the tension. Allison Williams is quality as Gemma, playing the "workaholic aunt" with a sincere coldness that makes her character arc actually mean something. The real star, though, is M3GAN herself—the combination of Amie Donald’s physical performance and Jenna Davis’s sugary-sweet voice is epic status. It’s a 7/10 because the "viral dance" and the hallway chase are pure quality horror-comedy moments that were practically built for the internet. The film also sneaks in some punchy commentary about how we use screens and tech to outsource our parenting. THE CONS It earns a 7/10 because it takes a little while to "boot up," with a first act that feels slightly sluggish as it sets up the family tragedy. While the kills are creative, you can tell the film was edited down from a gorier cut to get that PG-13 rating, which makes some of the violence feel a bit quality-deficient for hardcore horror fans. It misses an 8/10 mark because the ending shifts into a fairly standard "killer robot" showdown that feels a bit more predictable than the witty build-up. Ronny Chieng is funny, but his character is a bit of a damp squib, serving as a one-dimensional "greedy CEO" archetype we've seen a thousand times. THE VERDICT A 7/10. Decent and highly recommended—it’s a genuine belter of a popcorn flick that manages to be both creepy and hilarious. It’s a winner for its satire and the iconic title character. Director Gerard Johnstone added it because he thought the scene needed something "weird and unhinged." Amie Donald choreographed the moves herself after being given a few prompts about the "vibe" of the scene. • PG-13 Reshoots: The original version of the film was significantly bloodier and intended for an R-rating. After the trailer went viral and gained massive traction with younger audiences, the studio ordered reshoots to tone down the gore and secure a PG-13, ensuring more teenagers could see it in theaters.
