    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 2/10 THE SUMMARY Picking up exactly where the first film left off, the Outworld emperor Shao Kahn ignores the rules of the tournament and launches a full-scale invasion of Earth. Lord Raiden and his band of warriors have only six days to stop the realms from merging. What follows is a chaotic, globe-trotting mess of portal-jumping, budget CGI, and more character introductions than the plot knows what to do with. It’s a race against time that feels more like a race to the bottom. THE PROS If you’re in the mood for a "so bad it's good" night, this is a win for all the wrong reasons. The sheer audacity of the script is a total belter, delivering lines with a sincere lack of irony that will have you howling. It’s a celebratory explosion of 90s cheese, and seeing classic characters like Cyrax and Nightwolf on screen—no matter how briefly—provides a tiny bit of nostalgia for the arcade era. THE CONS It earns a 2/10 because it’s a complete head-scratcher of a sequel. The CGI was dated even in 1997; the "Animalities" at the end look like something from a PS1 cutscene and can feel sluggish even at 90 minutes. Most of the original cast was replaced with actors who look nothing like their predecessors, which is a tad distracting. It misses any higher mark because it lacks the charm and tight direction of the first film, opting for quantity over quality in every department. THE VERDICT A 2/10. Honestly, it’s a bit of a disaster. It’s a recommendation only if you’ve got mates over and want to roast a movie. Not a vault essential by any stretch. Go and watch it for the "Too bad you... will die!" line—it’s a belter of a cinematic failure. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Recast Chaos: Almost every major role was recast except for Robin Shou (Liu Kang) and Talisa Soto (Kitana). Most famously, Raiden was swapped from Christopher Lambert to James Remar because Lambert didn't like the script. • Scrapped Scenes: There was originally a massive fight scene planned between Quan Chi and Shinnok, but it was cut to save money, leaving a lot of characters standing around with nothing to do. • Speed Run: The film was rushed into production to capitalize on the first movie’s success, which is why the visual effects look unfinished—the studio literally refused to give the effects team more time. THE VIBE Like a budget haunted house where the masks don't quite fit. It smells like cheap hairspray, burnt electronics, and regret. It makes you want to go back and play the game instead, because at least there you're in control of the carnage.
