Overview

Taiyi Zhenren attempts to use a sacred seven-colored lotus to rebuild their bodies, but the process is far from simple. While the two heroes battle through three trials set by the villainous Master Wuliang, the Dragon King launches a full-scale war to reclaim his tribe's status. It’s an epic status fantasy that dives deeper into Chinese mythology, exploring themes of identity and destiny while turning the scale up to eleven. THE PROS The animation is a visual masterpiece, featuring over 1,900 special effects shots that make the first film look like a rough draft. The sheer scale of the battles—sometimes featuring hundreds of millions of characters on screen—is gripping and unlike anything seen in western animation. It’s a 9/10 because the emotional arc between Ne Zha and Ao Bing feels incredibly sincere, moving past their initial rivalry into a bond that carries the whole movie. The director, Jiaozi, manages to balance high-stakes wuxia action with that same punchy, irreverent humor that made the original a hit. Watching the duo alternate forms during the watercourse fight is a total highlight that proves the technical artistry here is second to none. THE CONS It earns a 9/10 because the plot is significantly more complex than the first, at times becoming a bit of a head-spin with its flurry of allegiances and mythological lore. At 144 minutes, the middle part can feel a bit sluggish for younger viewers, especially during the more philosophical trials. It misses a perfect score because the sheer number of characters and subplots means some of the supporting cast don't get the breathing room they deserve. A few of the logic jumps during the final part require you to just go with the flow of the magic rather than questioning the "rules" of the world. THE VERDICT A 9/10.
