⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Based on a harrowing true story from 2009, the film follows four friends—including two NFL players—who head out for a fishing trip off the Florida coast. When their boat capsizes in a sudden storm, they’re left clinging to the hull in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. With a major hurricane closing in, the group must battle hypothermia, dehydration, and massive swells while the Coast Guard, led by Captain Timothy Close, races against time and impossible weather to find them before the ocean claims them all. THE PROS The cinematography is epic; director Joe Carnahan used clever camera work that keeps the water constantly washing over the lens, making you feel every freezing wave. Zachary Levi turns in a punchy performance as Nick Schuyler, serving as the emotional anchor for the group as they face their mortality. It’s a decent watch because it doesn't shy away from the grim reality of the situation, showing the bond between the men without leaning too hard into cheap melodrama. The sound design is a winner, capturing the deafening roar of the ocean in a way that feels genuinely claustrophobic. THE CONS It earns a 7/10 because the pacing can feel slightly sluggish during the middle stretch, where the repetitive nature of being stuck on a boat starts to drag. Some of the dialogue is a bit of a damp squib, slipping into hokey, "inspirational" monologues that feel a bit too Hollywood for a story this raw. It misses an 8/10 mark because the constant cutting away to the Coast Guard command center occasionally kills the tension built up out on the water. THE VERDICT A 7/10. Decent and a solid recommendation for fans of survival thrillers like 'The Finest Hours' or 'All Is Lost'. It’s a winner for the central performances and the sheer intensity of the storm sequences. Go and watch it for the rescue attempt—it’s a proper nail-biter. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Long Road to Screen: A film adaptation was actually announced way back in 2014 with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson originally attached to star, but the project spent over a decade in development hell before finally being made with the current cast.• Malta for Miami: While the story takes place in the Gulf of Mexico, most of the grueling water scenes were actually filmed in massive outdoor tanks in Malta to ensure the crew could control the waves and safety of the actors.• Real Experience: To keep things authentic, the actors and stunt doubles spent the majority of the shoot being thrown around by actual high-pressure water cannons and swells, leading to some very real exhaustion that translated perfectly to the screen. THE VIBE Like being caught in a cold, salt-water rinse cycle. It smells like sea spray, wet neoprene, and desperation.

THE SUMMARY
