Overview

Moments after surviving an all-out attack from the Le Domas family, Grace discovers she’s reached the next level of the nightmarish game — and this time with her estranged sister Faith at her side. Grace has one chance to survive, keep her sister alive, and claim the High Seat of the Council that controls the world.     ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 ​ THE SUMMARY Picking up literally seconds after Grace had a smoke on the steps of a burning mansion, Here I Come proves that winning a deal with the devil just gets you a harder level. Grace is dragged into a global "High Seat" tournament where four rival families are hunting her and her estranged sister, Faith. It’s basically John Wick meets Succession, but with way more exploding body parts and ancient satanic bylaws. ​ THE PROS Samara Weaving remains the undisputed queen of the "blood-curdling scream followed by a punch to the face." The addition of Kathryn Newton as her sister adds a nice layer of family trauma to the mix, and Sarah Michelle Gellar playing a villainous twin is the casting choice we didn't know we needed. It scales up the world-building from one house to a whole network of elite cultists, making the lore feel like a genuine, twisted universe rather than a one-off gimmick. ​ THE CONS It suffers from a bit of "sequel bloat." The first film’s charm was its simplicity; this one gets bogged down in explaining the rules of the "Council" and the hierarchy of Mr. Le Bail’s organization. Also, because it’s an immediate sequel filmed seven years later, the "same night" continuity is a bit of a stretch—apparently, a night of terror is a great skincare routine, but you can definitely tell time has passed. ​ THE VERDICT It’s a loud, messy, "double or nothing" sequel that trades the original's tight tension for pure, unhinged chaos. It doesn't quite capture the lightning-in-a-bottle perfection of the first game, but it’s still a hell of a ride if you like your horror with a side of pitch-black comedy. ​ INSOMNIAC TRIVIA Despite being an "immediate" sequel, it was released seven years after the original. To keep the continuity, they had to recreate Grace's iconic, shredded wedding dress from scratch—though Samara Weaving joked she could probably still fit into the original if she hadn't eaten since 2019. Also, look out for Elijah Wood; he and Shawn Hatosy are reuniting here for the first time since The Faculty (1998). ​ THE VIBE That manic energy you get when you’ve pulled an all-nighter and everything is either hilarious or terrifying, but you’re too covered in blood to care which one it is.
