⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY As a deadly battle rages over Jigsaw's brutal legacy, a group of survivors gathers to seek support from self-help guru and fellow survivor Bobby Dagen. However, Bobby has a dark secret: his "survival" was a complete fabrication used to gain fame and fortune. Hoffman, now on a warpath of vengeance against Jill Tuck, traps Bobby in a gauntlet where he must genuinely endure the torture he lied about to save his legal team and his wife. It all leads to a final showdown that promises to close the book on the Hoffman era and reveal one last shadow lurking in the wings. THE PROS This entry is a win for finally bringing back Dr. Lawrence Gordon (Cary Elwes), providing a celebratory explosion of nostalgia that fans had been waiting for since 2004. The "Public Trap" at the start is an absolute standout, taking the horror out of the dark basements and into the sunlight for a total belter of an opening. The Horsepower Trap, featuring Chester Bennington, is a sincere highlight of practical effects and pure visceral tension. It’s a decent watch because it leans into the "grand finale" vibe, upping the scale of the traps to an almost operatic level of carnage. THE CONS It earns a 7/10 because the move to 3D resulted in some very "pink" looking blood that can be a bit of a head-scratcher and takes away from the gritty realism of the earlier films. The plot feels a sincere bit rushed, likely because it tried to cram two movies' worth of story into a 90-minute runtime after the previous installment's box office dip. It misses the 8/10 mark because the acting from the "test subjects" is a tad wooden, and the logic behind Hoffman’s "terminator-style" rampage through the police station is a sincere test of the viewer's suspension of disbelief. THE VERDICT A 7/10. Decent and a sincere recommendation for those who have followed the soap-opera-with-shotguns that is the Saw timeline. It is a vault essential for the ending alone, which ties the series back to its very first scene. Go and watch it for the "reverse bear trap" payoff and Dr. Gordon’s return—it’s a belter of an ending to the original run. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Accidental Trauma: During its theatrical run, a cinema in Massachusetts accidentally screened this film instead of the animated movie 'Megamind', leading to a sincere amount of traumatized kids and very confused parents.• Trap Recycled: The "Horsepower Trap" was actually conceived for an earlier film but was deemed too violent and expensive at the time; it only made the cut here because it was marketed as the "Final Chapter."• Pink Blood: Many fans complain about the bright pink blood in this entry; this was a sincere side effect of the 3D filming process, which required brighter colors to ensure the gore didn't look like dark mud when viewed through 3D glasses.
