⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Detective Hoffman is now the undisputed heir to Jigsaw’s legacy, but the FBI is closing in on the truth about Agent Strahm’s death. To distract from the heat, Hoffman launches a new game targeting William Easton, a high-level health insurance executive who once denied John Kramer’s request for experimental cancer treatment. William is forced into an abandoned zoo where he must navigate a series of brutal tests involving his own employees, effectively deciding who lives and who dies based on the same cold-hearted formulas he used at his desk. It’s a sharp, politically charged entry that pits a corporate vulture against the ultimate moral judge. THE PROS This film is a win for its "socially conscious" horror; using the broken healthcare system as a backdrop provides a celebratory explosion of righteous fury that makes the traps feel more impactful. The "Carousel Trap" is an absolute standout and a total belter of a sequence—it’s tense, visually striking, and perfectly captures the heartless "math" of William’s business. Costas Mandylor finally hits his stride as Hoffman, bringing a sincere, hulking menace to the role as he tries to outrun the law. It’s a good movie because it has the most cohesive and satisfying story of the middle sequels, finally giving the series some needed purpose. THE CONS It earns an 8/10 because, while highly recommended, the gore is becoming a bit of a head-scratcher in terms of how "cartoonish" it’s getting. Some of the logic—especially how Hoffman manages to set up a massive zoo-based gauntlet while under active FBI surveillance—is a sincere test of the audience's suspension of disbelief. It misses the 9/10 status because it still relies on the "epileptic" fast-cut editing style that can be a tad of a headache, and the supporting characters are mostly just cannon fodder for the machines. It’s a belter of a sequel, but it still plays firmly within the established sandbox. THE VERDICT An 8/10. A good movie and a sincere recommendation for those who want a bit of "eat the rich" satire with their blood and guts. It is a vault essential for the franchise and easily the best of the later Hoffman-era films. It makes you want to read the fine print on your insurance policy, stay away from merry-go-rounds, and realize that you can’t put a price on a human life.
