    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Part high-stakes heist and part vertigo-inducing romance, this documentary follows Russian "rooftoppers" Angela Nikolau and Vanya Beerkus. Directed by Jeff Zimbalist, the film tracks their six-year journey of scaling some of the world's tallest skyscrapers without safety gear. The narrative culminates in their most daring mission yet: sneaking into the Merdeka 118 in Malaysia—the second-tallest building in the world—to perform a death-defying stunt on its spire. It’s a nail-biting look at a relationship built on total trust, where a single slip doesn't just mean a breakup, but certain death. THE PROS The cinematography is absolutely breathtaking; the mix of drone shots and first-person GoPro footage creates a visceral experience that makes your palms sweat within minutes. Angela and Vanya are compelling subjects, and their chemistry feels honest and sincere, especially as they navigate the pressure of maintaining their social media fame while risking their lives. It’s an 8/10 because the film expertly builds tension, turning a documentary into a pulse-pounding thriller during the Merdeka 118 climb. The sound design is a winner, using the whistle of the wind and the rhythmic breathing of the climbers to make the height feel real and oppressive. The first part of the movie does an excellent job of explaining the "rooftopping" subculture, showing that for these two, it’s about a search for freedom rather than just "likes." THE CONS It earns an 8/10 because the middle part is quite sluggish, spending a lot of time on their relationship drama and the impact of the war in Ukraine, which slows down the momentum of the climbs. There’s a lingering sense of artificiality in some of the "private" conversations, which feel a bit staged for the camera. It misses a higher mark because it doesn't quite address the darker side of their hobby, like the legal consequences or the potential for copycats. While the ending is gripping, the heavy use of metaphorical narration about "trust" can feel a bit repetitive and "on the nose" by the final part. THE VERDICT An 8/10. Just a fair warning: if you have a fear of heights, this one will genuinely test your nerves. THE VIBE Like standing on a glass floor over a canyon. It smells of cold wind, ozone, and the sharp, metallic scent of a crane’s rusted steel.
