Overview

When a death row inmate he put away a decade ago claims innocence, Roy is forced to re-examine a brutal murder case he can no longer remember. Aided by a former partner and a mysterious woman (Karen Gillan) linked to the victim, Roy navigates a gritty labyrinth of buried secrets. It’s a noir-soaked mystery where the greatest enemy isn't a killer, but the pained, unreliable nature of his own mind. THE PROS Russell Crowe is the sincere heart of this flick, delivering a pained and weary performance that makes his struggle with memory loss feel visceral. It hits a 6 because the central hook of a detective who can't trust his own past is a fair shout for an interesting premise. Karen Gillan provides a sharp, mysterious edge to the story, and the cold, grey atmosphere of the film suits the melancholic, gritty tone perfectly.
