⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Peter Parker finally has it all: the girl, the city's love, and a plan to propose. But the universe has other ideas. A sentient alien goo hitches a ride on a meteorite and bonds with Peter, turning his suit black and his personality into a cringey, jazz-dancing nightmare. While Peter struggles with his inner "emo," he’s being hunted by three villains at once: his former best mate Harry (the New Goblin), the tragic, sand-shifting Flint Marko, and a rival photographer named Eddie Brock who becomes the jagged-toothed Venom. It’s a messy, overstuffed showdown that tests whether Peter can actually forgive those who’ve wronged him. THE PROS Thomas Haden Church is an absolute win as Sandman; the scene where he first tries to pull himself together from a pile of dust is a visual masterstroke that still holds up. The action is punchy, especially the crane rescue and the final construction site battle. J.K. Simmons is epic status as always, delivering some of the funniest Daily Bugle moments in the trilogy. It’s a decent watch because, despite the chaos, it manages to tie up the emotional threads of the first two movies with a sincere, heavy finale. It’s a winner for the spectacle alone—Raimi knows how to frame a superhero scrap like nobody else. THE CONS It earns a 7/10 because it’s trying to do way too much; the plot feels seriously sluggish when it juggles three villains and a breakup. Venom is a bit of a damp squib here—Topher Grace does his best, but the character feels quality-deficient and rushed because the studio forced him into a script that didn't want him. It misses an 8/10 mark because of the infamous "Evil Peter" sequences; while the banter is funny in a "so bad it's good" way, the dancing and the fringe-flipping are a bit of a head-scratcher that kills the tension. THE VERDICT A 7/10. Decent and a must-watch if you’ve seen the first two, just to see how the Raimi era wraps up. It’s a winner for the Sandman effects and the sheer ambition. Go and watch it for the memes, but stay for the surprisingly touching ending—it’s quality closure. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Fist through Sandman: In the scene where Spidey punches through Sandman's chest, they used a real double. Baxter Humby, a professional kickboxer who was born without his right hand, stood in for the shot to make the effect of a hand disappearing into the sand look 100% real without CGI.• Fang Pain: Topher Grace had to wear painful fangs that actually bruised his gums, and he spent over an hour every day getting into a suit that was constantly smeared with a sticky, viscous liquid to keep it looking like living slime.• Suit Swap: The black suit was originally designed to be a "latex" material to match the comics, but it looked like a gimp suit on camera. They eventually switched to a textured, webbed version that was essentially a recolored version of the classic red-and-blue suit. THE VIBE Like a massive, expensive birthday party where too many people showed up. It smells like hair gel, damp sand, and city soot.
