⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY Working in the shadow of his esteemed police veteran father, brash Detective Ezekiel "Zeke" Banks and his rookie partner take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. As the mystery deepens, Zeke finds himself at the center of a morbid game where the killer is targeting "dirty" cops using Jigsaw’s twisted methodology. It’s a spin-off that attempts to blend a gritty urban police procedural with the trap-heavy horror the series is known for, aiming to expose systemic corruption one limb at a time. THE PROS The film is a win for its attempt to broaden the scope of the universe, stepping away from the "industrial basement" aesthetic for a more cinematic, sun-drenched city look. Chris Rock brings a sincere intensity to his role, and seeing him share the screen with Samuel L. Jackson is a celebratory explosion of star power for this franchise. The traps remain a total belter for those who enjoy mechanical carnage, with the "tongue" and "glass" sequences being particularly nasty. It’s a decent watch because it tries to say something about modern policing while keeping the gore-hounds happy.
