⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Directly following the destruction of Starkiller Base, the Resistance is on the run, pursued by a First Order that can now track them through hyperspace. While Finn and a new ally, Rose, head on a desperate mission to a high-stakes casino city, Rey tracks down the legendary Luke Skywalker on a secluded island. But Luke isn’t the hero she expected; he’s a broken man who has turned his back on the Force. As Kylo Ren’s connection to Rey deepens through a mysterious mental link, the galaxy's fate rests on whether the past should be preserved or, as Kylo suggests, burned to the ground. THE PROS This film is a win because it takes massive, sincere risks with the franchise's mythology. Mark Hamill delivers a total belter of a performance, giving us a complex, weary Luke that feels deeply human. The cinematography is a celebratory explosion of color—the red salt flats of Crait and the stark throne room fight are absolute standouts that rank among the most beautiful scenes in the saga. It’s an outstanding look at the nature of failure and heroism, moving away from "chosen bloodlines" to suggest that anyone can be a spark of hope. The interaction between Rey and Kylo is the business, crackling with a tension that keeps you guessing until the very end. THE CONS It earns an 8/10 because, while highly recommended, the Canto Bight subplot is a bit of a head-scratcher. Instead of digitally erasing them, the crew created the alien birds to hide the real ones.• Prince Cameos: Princes William and Harry actually filmed cameos as Stormtroopers for the film, though their scene was reportedly cut from the final theatrical version because they were too tall compared to the other soldiers.• Yoda’s Return: To maintain a sincere connection to the original trilogy, the Yoda who appears to Luke was a physical puppet created using the original mold from 1980, and Frank Oz returned to perform him live on set.
