⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY In a future where people live their lives through remote-controlled robotic avatars, FBI agent Tom Greer is investigating a first-of-its-kind murder: a weapon has been used that kills both the surrogate and its human operator. When Greer’s own bot is trashed, he’s forced to do something unthinkable—actually leave his house in his own aging, fleshy body. He discovers a massive conspiracy involving the corporation that built the tech and a group of "dreads" who want to bring the whole artificial world crashing down. THE PROS The concept is a total win for sci-fi fans; it’s a sharp commentary on how we hide behind digital versions of ourselves. Seeing Bruce Willis play two versions of himself—the "uncanny valley" smooth-faced robot and the grizzled, bearded real human—is an epic contrast. The film is punchy and moves at a brisk pace, never overstaying its welcome. It’s a decent watch because it leans into the "noir" detective vibe, and the scene where Greer has a panic attack while stepping outside for the first time in years is quality. THE CONS It earns a 7/10 because the plot gets a bit convoluted toward the end, with revelations that feel like a bit of a damp squib rather than a mind-blowing twist. The budget shows in some of the CGI, which can look slightly sluggish and dated by today’s standards. It misses the 8/10 mark because it only scratches the surface of its big philosophical ideas, choosing to focus more on standard chase sequences than the deeper "humanity" of the story. THE VERDICT A 7/10. Decent and a solid recommendation if you like high-concept thrillers like 'I, Robot' or 'Minority Report'. It’s a winner for the premise alone, even if the execution is a bit "action-movie standard." Go and watch it to see Bruce Willis looking like a waxwork—it’s genuinely creepy. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • De-Aging Prototype: To create Greer’s surrogate, the production used early digital de-aging techniques and a lot of heavy makeup to give Bruce Willis a "plastic" look. It was one of the first major attempts at the youth-tech we see in movies today.• Graphic Origins: The film is based on a comic book miniseries by Robert Venditti. The original story is much darker and focuses more on the sociopolitical fallout of people abandoning their real bodies.• Music Connection: The film features the song "I Will Not Bow" by Breaking Benjamin. The music video actually uses a lot of the high-tech laboratory footage from the movie, making it a staple of late-2000s rock channels. THE VIBE Like looking through a filtered camera lens at a messy room. It smells like sterile plastic, ozone, and old coffee.
