⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY A group of teenagers discovers they can conjure spirits using an embalmed, ceramic-clad hand. Mia (Sophie Wilde), struggling with the pained anniversary of her mother’s death, becomes hooked on the visceral rush of the possession. The rules are simple: don't stay under for more than ninety seconds. But when a session goes horribly wrong and the boundary between the living and the dead collapses, Mia is forced to decide who she can trust—the living or the terrifyingly persistent spirits she let in. THE PROS This is an absolute belter for the horror genre. It hits an 8 because it ditches the tired jump scares for a pained, atmospheric dread that feels entirely fresh. Sophie Wilde is fantastic, delivering a sincere and gritty performance as a girl whose grief makes her dangerously vulnerable. The practical effects are visceral and unsettling; the way the possessed characters look and move is a fair shout for the creepiest imagery in years. It’s an epic debut from the RackaRacka twins, proving they can transition from YouTube chaos to a punchy, well-crafted feature film without losing their edge. The concept of possession as a metaphor for teenage thrill-seeking is an honest, clever touch. THE CONS It stays at an 8 because the final act moves at such a breakneck speed that some of the pained emotional beats don’t get quite enough room to breathe. It misses a higher mark because a few of the secondary characters feel like standard "horror fodder," existing mostly to push the plot toward the next visceral set piece.
