⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 10/10 THE SUMMARY James Cameron didn’t just make a sequel; he reinvented the entire genre and gave us the definitive action movie of the 90s. Ten years after the original, Skynet sends back a more advanced, liquid-metal T-1000 to kill a young John Connor. However, the Resistance sends back a reprogrammed T-800 to act as his protector. It’s a spectacular flip of the original premise that turns a nightmare into a father figure. It’s a story about human nature, fate, and a mother who has transformed herself into a weapon to save the world. THE PROS This film is a top-tier masterclass in every department. The T-1000, played with chilling, predatory precision by Robert Patrick, remains one of the most terrifying villains in cinema history. Linda Hamilton’s transformation into a lean, mean, tactical Sarah Connor is a win that redefined female action leads forever. The practical stunts—like the helicopter flying under a motorway bridge—are a total belter and look better than most modern CGI. It’s a sincere emotional journey too; the bond between John and his metal guardian provides a heart that most sci-fi flicks can only dream of. THE CONS It’s a 10/10, so finding a flaw is like trying to find a dent in a T-1000. If you are being incredibly picky, some of Edward Furlong’s "90s kid" dialogue can feel a bit wet and dated today, and the "thumbs up" at the end is a massive tear-jerker that some might find a tad sentimental. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Twin Magic: In the scene where the T-1000 mimics a security guard, and later Sarah Connor, the production didn't use CGI. They used real-life identical twins—Don and Dan Stanton, and Linda Hamilton’s twin sister Leslie—to pull off the "double" effect on set.• Sound of Metal: To create the unique sound of the T-1000 passing through metal bars, the sound designer simply slid a can of dog food out of its tin and recorded the slurping, metallic noise it made.• Armoured Arnold: Schwarzenegger was so committed to the role that he practiced his weapon reloads and firing until he could do it all without blinking, as a machine wouldn't have a human flinch reflex. THE VIBE Like a cool blue lens flare, the smell of leather jackets and industrial oil, and the heavy thud of a metallic heartbeat. It is intense, cool, and incredibly moving. It makes you want to hop on a Harley, learn how to hack an ATM, and believe that there is "no fate but what we make."
