⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Grab your leather jacket and a pack of smokes, because we’re heading to 1960s Chicago. *The Bikeriders* (2024) is a gritty, grease-stained look at the rise and fall of the "Vandals," a fictional motorcycle club that starts as a band of outsiders and ends up as something much darker. Told through the eyes of Kathy, who falls for the reckless Benny, the film explores the tug-of-war between the domestic life she offers and the roar of the road promised by the gang’s leader, Johnny. It’s a beautifully shot memory piece that captures a subculture right as it’s losing its soul. THE PROS The central trio is a total win; Jodie Comer brings a sharp, "chisel-voweled" charisma to Kathy, while Tom Hardy leans into a Brando-esque growl that is genuinely magnetic. Austin Butler basically vibrates off the screen with a "lost-boy" energy that feels like James Dean reincarnated. The film’s atmosphere is its biggest win—you can practically smell the stale beer and exhaust fumes thanks to Jeff Nichols’ precise direction and the stunning, period-accurate costume design. It manages to humanize a group of people usually relegated to B-movie villains, making their "raw-knuckle" camaraderie feel sincere and oddly tragic. THE CONS It misses the 9/10 mark because while the vibe is pitch-perfect, the actual plot is a bit thin and occasionally hits a "Languid Burn" that might leave you waiting for a gear shift that never comes.
