Overview

⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 6/10 THE SUMMARY Following the massive success of the original, this 2006 sequel attempts to strike lightning twice with a fresh face. Nick Larson (Eric Lively) is a rising businessman who loses his girlfriend and best friends in a horrific car accident. Discovering he can project his consciousness into old photographs, he starts "jumping" back to fix the tragedy. However, each attempt to save his loved ones only makes his present-day life more chaotic, leading to corporate backstabbing and even more personal loss. It’s a standard "be careful what you wish for" tale that trades the psychological depth of the first film for a more straightforward, soap-opera style drama. THE PROS The film is a win when it comes to the "butterfly effect" concept itself; it’s always fun to see how one small change can turn a person’s life upside down. Eric Lively puts in a sincere effort as Nick, doing his best to ground a plot that often feels a bit thin. There are a few creative moments where the shifts in reality are genuinely surprising, particularly when Nick finds himself in a high-powered corporate position he’s completely unqualified for. It’s a celebratory explosion of early-2000s tech and fashion that will hit a nostalgic chord for anyone who lived through the era of flip-phones and digital cameras. THE CONS It earns a 6/10 because it feels like a bit of a head-scratcher why this was made as a sequel rather than a standalone TV movie.
