As an adult, he discovers that by reading his childhood journals, he can project his consciousness back into his younger body to alter the past. But this isn't a "fix-it" fantasy; it’s a brutal lesson in chaos theory. Every time Evan tries to save his childhood sweetheart, Kayleigh, or protect his friends, the "ripple effect" creates a new, often more horrific reality. It’s a dark, psychological thriller that explores the heavy price of playing God with your own memories. THE PROS This film is an absolute win because of its unflinching darkness; it doesn't shy away from uncomfortable, gritty territory that most mainstream sci-fi avoids. Ashton Kutcher delivers a sincere, career-best performance, proving he could handle far more than just sitcom tropes. The way the narrative layers the different timelines is a total belter—each jump feels significant and the stakes grow increasingly desperate. It’s a celebratory explosion of "high-concept" storytelling that keeps you on the edge of your seat, constantly wondering how a single choice could spiral so disastrously out of control.
