Overview

Three American brothers who have not spoken to each other in a year set off on a train voyage across India with a plan to find themselves and bond with each other -- to become brothers again like they used to be. Their "spiritual quest", however, veers rapidly off-course (due to events involving over-the-counter pain killers, Indian cough syrup, and pepper spray).

⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY A year after their father’s funeral, three estranged brothers—Francis (Owen Wilson), Peter (Adrien Brody), and Jack (Jason Schwartzman)—reunite for a "spiritual journey" across India by train. Francis, the eldest and most controlling, has planned the trip down to the minute, but the baggage they’re carrying is more than just the literal designer suitcases they’re lugging around. As they bicker their way through temples and markets, the real goal of the trip becomes clear: finding their mother, who has retreated to a convent in the Himalayas. It’s a typical Wes Anderson setup—perfectly symmetrical, vibrantly colored, and deeply melancholic. THE PROS The chemistry between the three leads is top-tier, making their sibling rivalry feel grounded and honest even amidst the quirky aesthetic. Adrien Brody is particularly great, bringing a quiet, panicked energy to Peter that balances out the more eccentric performances. It’s a 7/10 because the cinematography is gorgeous, using the moving train and the Indian landscape to create some of the most vibrant visuals in Anderson’s filmography. The first part of the movie does a fantastic job of setting up the dynamic, and the punchy humor lands well, especially during the more absurd moments of their "spiritual" rituals.
