⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 5/10 THE SUMMARY Directed by Bruce Wemple, this 2024 folk-horror thriller attempts to blend gritty family drama with Appalachian legend. Leon (LeJon Woods), a door-to-door salesman trying to bridge the gap with his estranged teenage son, takes him on a camping trip into the deep, misty woods of rural Appalachia. The "bonding" trip turns into a living nightmare when his son is abducted in the dead of night. Leon soon finds himself hunted by a local cult and a tall, spindly supernatural entity known as "The Hangman." It’s a desperate rescue mission that pits a father’s resolve against a community fueled by ancient hate and a monster born of pain. THE PROS LeJon Woods is the absolute winner of this production; he delivers a sincere and emotionally charged performance that makes the father-son dynamic feel honest and grounded. For a modest-budget flick, the atmosphere is high-quality, using the natural isolation of the mountains to create a sense of mounting dread. It earns a 5/10 because the "human" horror—the tension between Leon and the hostile locals—is genuinely gripping and feels much scarier than the supernatural elements.
