    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Tech-obsessed parents Tim (Andrew Garfield) and Polly (Claire Foy) decide to ditch their sleek, AI-integrated city life after losing their jobs to machines. They drag their three kids—Beth, Joe, and Fran—to a remote, crumbling farmhouse in the English countryside to "reconnect." While the parents struggle with basic rural survival (like finding a Wi-Fi signal or an egg), the children wander into an ancient wood and discover a massive, enchanted tree. This isn't just a plant; it’s a living gateway to eccentric residents like Moonface, Silky, and the Saucepan Man. At the top, revolving magical lands like the Land of Birthdays and the Land of Dreams await, forcing the family to swap their screens for a high-stakes adventure to save each other from the clutches of Dame Snap. THE PROS Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy have a quality chemistry that keeps the "stressed parent" dynamic feeling sincere rather than annoying. Garfield, in particular, is a winner as the overly optimistic dad trying to be a "Captain Fantastic" type in a muddy field. The casting of the tree residents is epic status—Nonso Anozie as Moonface and Nicola Coughlan as Silky bring a punchy, whimsical energy that feels like it stepped right out of the Enid Blyton books. It’s an 8/10 because it’s a genuine "modern classic" that handles the post-pandemic "tech-anxiety" theme with a light, humorous touch. The Land of Birthdays sequence is visually stunning and pure quality cinema, and Jessica Gunning as Dame Washalot is a standout, providing some of the best laughs in the film. THE CONS It earns an 8/10 because the "modernization" can occasionally feel a bit quality-deficient, especially when the kids make too many Meta or TikTok jokes that might feel outdated in a few years. The pacing in the first act is a bit of a damp squib as we spend quite a long time watching the parents fail at farming before we actually get to the tree. It misses a 9/10 mark because some of the CGI in the more abstract lands feels slightly sluggish compared to the gorgeous practical sets of the farmhouse and the tree’s base.
