⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 5/10 THE SUMMARY Emily and Christian open an organic bistro in New Orleans' French Quarter, but their dream turns into a gritty nightmare when they discover an ancient Wiccan artifact hidden in their walls: a pendulum board. As Emily becomes obsessed with the board’s power, she is drawn into a web of white magic and dark secrets by a mysterious "expert" (Jamie Campbell Bower). What starts as a way to find lost objects becomes a fight for her soul as an ancient entity begins to claim her life. It’s a modern reimagining of the 1986 cult classic that trades 80s cheese for New Orleans gothic atmosphere. THE PROS The film looks great, capturing the humid, shadows-heavy vibe of New Orleans perfectly. It hits a 5 because Jamie Campbell Bower is an absolute win here; he brings that same pained, sinister charisma he’s known for, making every scene he’s in instantly more interesting. There are some honest attempts at building a unique mythology around the "Witchboard" that goes beyond just a standard Ouija knock-off. The practical effects during the more occult sequences are solid, providing a few gritty moments that will satisfy fans of supernatural body horror. THE CONS It stays at a 5 because the plot feels a bit like a "head scratcher" in the second half, getting bogged down in convoluted lore that’s hard to follow. It misses a higher mark because the lead couple lacks the chemistry needed to make you truly care about their crumbling relationship.
