⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY The world’s first and most powerful mutant, Apocalypse, wakes up after thousands of years and he’s proper fuming with how the world turned out. He recruits a disillusioned Magneto and three other "Horsemen" to cleanse the planet and create a new world order where only the strong survive. As Cairo gets turned into a literal sandcastle, Raven (Mystique) has to step up and lead a team of young, inexperienced X-Men—including a teenage Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Nightcrawler—to stop the blue god from body-swapping with Professor X and ending humanity. THE PROS Quicksilver is a total win once again; his "Sweet Dreams" rescue sequence at the X-Mansion is an absolute masterstroke and easily the highlight of the film. Oscar Isaac does his best behind pounds of blue latex, making Apocalypse feel like a quality, menacing threat. The final battle is punchy and gives Jean Grey an epic moment that hints at the power she’s truly hiding. It’s a decent watch because it brings back the fun "ensemble" vibe, and seeing the 80s versions of the classic characters is a winner for the nostalgia. THE CONS It earns a 7/10 because the plot is a bit of a damp squib, following the "end of the world" formula a bit too closely without adding anything fresh. The pacing can feel slightly sluggish in the middle act during the recruitment montage, which drags on a bit too long. It misses an 8/10 mark because some of the Horsemen, like Psylocke and Angel, feel quality-deficient and barely get any dialogue or character development. THE VERDICT A 7/10. Decent and a solid recommendation for a popcorn night. It’s a winner for the Quicksilver scene alone. Go and watch it for the Weapon X cameo—it’s pure quality. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Heavy Metal: Oscar Isaac’s Apocalypse costume weighed about 40 pounds and required a cooling system underneath to keep him from overheating. He famously described the experience as "excruciating" because he couldn't move his head properly.• Arcade Vibes: The scene where the young mutants go to the mall features a "Dazzler" album cover and they're seen leaving a screening of 'Return of the Jedi', which is a cheeky nod to the franchise's own history with "third movies."• Digital Menu: In the Cairo command center scenes, the digital readouts on the monitors feature a hidden sushi recipe—a legendary VFX easter egg that has appeared in nearly every major Marvel-related movie since 'The Matrix'.
