⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY In a world where humans are starting to fear the next stage of evolution, a young girl named Rogue and a surly drifter called Logan are rescued from a mutant assassin by the X-Men—a team of gifted individuals led by Professor Charles Xavier. They are brought to a secret school where they learn that the extremist Magneto plans to use a machine to forcibly "mutate" the world's leaders at a summit in New York. The X-Men have to stop him before his machine kills everyone it touches, while proving to humanity that they aren't the monsters the public thinks they are. THE PROS Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are epic status; their chess-match chemistry is a total win and sets a high bar for the rest of the series. Hugh Jackman’s debut as Wolverine is quality—he stepped in at the last minute and instantly became the face of the franchise. The action is punchy for its time, especially the train station showdown. It’s a good movie because it treats the "mutant metaphor" with sincerity rather than just being a hollow action flick. The introduction of the team is a winner, giving everyone from Storm to Cyclops a distinct role in the final fight at Liberty Island. THE CONS It earns an 8/10 because the budget constraints are obvious; the scale feels a bit small compared to the later sequels. The yellow spandex joke is funny, but the black leather suits look a bit quality-deficient and dated today. It misses a higher mark because the plot is a bit of a damp squib in the middle act, feeling slightly sluggish while it handles the heavy exposition. Toad and Sabretooth are a bit of a head-scratcher, coming across more like silent henchmen than actual characters. THE VERDICT An 8/10. A good movie and highly recommended for anyone who wants to see where the modern superhero craze truly kicked off. It’s a winner for the casting alone. THE SUMMARY
