    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 9/10 THE SUMMARY When a pregnant pop idol named Ai Hoshino shows up at a rural hospital, her doctor and a young patient both end up meeting a sudden, violent end—only to be reborn as Ai’s twin children, Aqua and Ruby. While Ruby dreams of following her mother’s footsteps into the spotlight, Aqua becomes obsessed with a darker goal. After a tragic event shatters their perfect world, he realizes that the entertainment industry is a nest of lies and set out to find the person responsible for their mother’s death. It’s a cynical, high-stakes revenge thriller wrapped in the bright, deceptive packaging of an idol anime. THE PROS This show is a massive result because it pulls no punches about how brutal the fame game really is. It hits a 9 because it manages to balance a gripping murder mystery with an honest look at things like social media dogpiling, reality TV editing, and the pained pressure on child actors. The first episode is an epic, feature-length masterpiece that sets a bar few shows ever reach. The animation by Doga Kobo is a total highlight, especially the way they use vibrant colors and "sparkling" eyes to hide the darkness underneath. It’s a smart, self-aware series that feels entirely fresh and is a fair shout for the most unique anime in years. THE CONS It stays at a 9 because the transition from the heavy mystery to the "theatre acting" arcs in the second season can feel like a bit of a slog for viewers who are just here for the revenge plot. It misses a perfect mark because some of the "inner monologue" explanations of how the industry works can be a bit of a head-scratcher and slow down the emotional momentum. While the characters are great, the sheer amount of technical detail about stage plays and contracts might test your patience if you aren't interested in the behind-the-scenes stuff. A few of the side characters feel a bit thin compared to the intense, pained journey of the Hoshino twins. THE VERDICT 9/10. A dark, gorgeous, and incredibly smart take on the cost of stardom. It’s an honest win for anyone who wants a thriller that actually has something to say about modern culture. U.S.) chart. THE VIBE Like a bright spotlight that burns too hot. It smells of hairspray, old floorboards, and the metallic tang of a hidden knife.
