    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY The 2024 crime-comedy that finally gave us the "Vince Vaughn-aissance" we didn't know we needed. Bad Monkey follows Andrew Yancy (Vaughn), a fast-talking detective-turned-health inspector who gets demoted to checking for rat droppings in South Florida kitchens after a very public meltdown. When a severed arm is hooked by a tourist, Yancy sees his ticket back to the force and dives into a swamp of greed, murder, and Obeah magic stretching from the Florida Keys to the Bahamas. By April 2024, the first season had us hooked, and as of today, April 24, 2026, we are in the middle of a massive hype cycle for Season 2, which was officially renewed in late 2024. THE PROS Vince Vaughn is a total win here; his relentless, sincere "gift of the gab" makes Yancy one of the most watchable characters in years. The supporting cast is a genuine highlight, with Meredith Hagner delivering 100% authentic "delusional villain" energy as Eve Stripling. The series is a gripping feat of tonal balance, capturing Carl Hiaasen’s signature "sunny noir" vibe where the scenery is beautiful but everyone is trying to kill each other. It’s the "Go To" for armchair travel, with visceral cinematography that makes you feel the Florida humidity and the Bahamian breeze through the screen. THE CONS It hits an 8/10 because the multiple plotlines—Yancy’s arm investigation, the Dragon Queen’s rituals, and Neville’s struggle—can occasionally feel like a bit of a maze that takes a second to collide. For some, the narration can be a bit of a head-scratcher; it’s witty, but it can feel a little "hand-holdy" when the visuals are already doing the heavy lifting. It misses a higher mark because some of the middle episodes felt a bit languid, stretching out the mystery slightly longer than necessary to fill the 10-episode run. THE VERDICT An 8/10. It is a genuine, sun-drenched triumph that proves Bill Lawrence (of *Ted Lasso* fame) knows exactly how to mix heart with high-stakes chaos. It’s a bit of a let-down if you were hoping for a gritty, serious police procedural, but as a "detective comedy in paradise," it’s a crown jewel. As of late April 2026, production for Season 2 has moved from the Keys to Los Angeles, and with John Malkovich officially joining the cast as a new criminal kingpin, the upcoming run is shaping up to be essential viewing.
