Overview

Based on characters from the hit theatrical film ‘Legion’ (2010), ‘Dominion’ is an epic supernatural drama set in the year 25 A.E. In this transformed post–apocalyptic future an army of lower angels, assembled by the archangel Gabriel, has waged a war of possession against mankind. The archangel Michael, turning against his own kind, has chosen to side with humanity against Gabriel. Rising out of the ashes of the 25-year-long battle are newly fortified cities which protect the human survivors. In Vega (formerly Las Vegas), the largest of these cities, two houses vie for control and the stage is set for political upheaval and a dangerous power shift. Meanwhile, a rebellious young soldier begins a perilous journey as the war between the human race and the fallen angels hellbent on their domination escalates.

⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Welcome to Vega, formerly known as Las Vegas, where the stakes are literally biblical. *Dominion* (2014–2015) is a supernatural action-drama that serves as a sequel to the 2010 movie *Legion*. Set 25 years after an army of lower angels waged an "Extermination War" against humanity, God has pulled a vanishing act, and the Archangel Gabriel (Carl Beukes) blames us for it. The show follows Alex Lannon (Christopher Egan), a rebellious young soldier who discovers he is the "Chosen One" destined to save mankind. With the Archangel Michael (Tom Wisdom) acting as a mentor and the city of Vega turning into a political snake pit, it’s a two-season war between heaven and earth. THE PROS The angel mythology is a total win. These aren't the soft, harp-playing angels from your grandma’s paintings; they are terrifying, sword-wielding warriors with a serious grudge. Tom Wisdom as Michael is a sincere standout, playing the "protector of humanity" with a cold, detached intensity that makes him feel genuinely ancient. The show’s biggest win is its world-building—turning the ruins of Vegas into a fortified caste-system city with "agro-towers" and power struggles between House Riesen and House Whele. Anthony Stewart Head (of *Buffy* fame) as the power-hungry David Whele is a masterstroke of casting, bringing a Shakespearean level of villainy to the wasteland. THE CONS It is a 7/10 because the CGI for the "8-balls" (possessed humans) can look a bit like garbage by 2026 standards, often feeling a little rubbery during the big action scenes. It misses the 8/10 mark because the pacing in Season 1 can be a bit of a Languid Burn, focusing more on soap-opera romance than the cool angel wars we came for. It is a total head-scratcher why Syfy cancelled it on such a massive Season 2 cliffhanger in 2015. For some, the heavy "prophecy" tropes feel a bit dated, but the show really finds its footing when it leans into the political backstabbing and the war between the Archangel brothers. THE VERDICT A 7/10. It is a genuine, ambitious, and grit-covered sci-fi epic that deserved at least one more season to finish the fight. I was slightly gutted when it was axed just as Gabriel’s plan was finally getting interesting.
