⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 9/10 THE SUMMARY Spanning generations, this series follows the Joestar family—each nicknamed "JoJo"—as they battle supernatural foes using everything from mystical breathing techniques (Hammon) to physical manifestations of their psyche (Stands). It all starts in Victorian England with the rivalry between the noble Jonathan Joestar and the ambitious, vampire-turning Dio Brando. From there, the story explodes across the globe, following Jonathan's descendants through New York, Egypt, and Italy. It’s a wild, colorful, and completely unpredictable journey that redefined what an action anime could be. THE PROS This is an amazing series because it completely embraces its own weirdness without ever looking back. It hits a 9 because the style is a total highlight; the way the colors shift during intense moments and the iconic "poses" give it a visual energy you won't find anywhere else. The transition from the "Phantom Blood" arc into the globe-trotting "Stardust Crusaders" is a great series of shifts that keeps the formula from ever getting stale. The villains are some of the most honest-to-god iconic in anime history—Dio is a legend for a reason. It’s a smart, creative show that balances brutal, pained combat with some of the funniest and most sincere character moments in the genre. THE CONS It stays at a 9 because the first nine episodes can feel like a bit of a slog for modern viewers who are used to faster pacing and the "Stand" battles of later seasons. It misses a perfect mark because some of the logic in the fights is an honest head-scratcher, relying on "Araki-forgot" moments or powers that only show up once and never again. The dialogue is famously over-the-top, which is a fair shout for a laugh, but it might be a bit too much for people who prefer a grounded story. While the animation from David Production is usually top-tier, a few of the early CGI moments haven't aged as well as the hand-drawn art. THE VERDICT 9/10. A flamboyant, epic, and endlessly creative masterpiece. It’s a great series that only gets better the further you go down the rabbit hole of the Joestar bloodline. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • The creator, Hirohiko Araki, is a massive fan of Western music and fashion; almost every major character and power in the series is named after a classic rock band, singer, or luxury brand.• In the "Stardust Crusaders" arc, the production team actually traveled to the locations mentioned in the story, like Egypt and Singapore, to make sure the backgrounds and atmosphere felt honest to the real-world spots.• The "JoJo Pose" has become a massive cultural phenomenon in Japan, with fans and even professional athletes holding "posing contests" to see who can recreate the characters' gravity-defying stances. THE VIBE Like a rock concert in an art gallery. It smells of expensive cologne, old leather, and the metallic tang of a swinging sword.
