Brendan Gleeson stars as Bill Hodges, a retired detective living in a pained haze of whiskey and regret until he’s taunted by the "Mercedes Killer"—the psychopath who mowed down sixteen people at a job fair years prior. The series follows their pained cat-and-mouse game across three distinct seasons: a grounded first season, a pained and experimental second season involving "brain-bridge" sci-fi, and a 2019 final season that focuses on the legacy of a dead author. As of early 2026, the show has found a massive second life on Netflix, with a new generation of fans discovering the pained and twisted bond between Hodges and his nemesis, Brady Hartsfield (Harry Treadaway). THE PROS This is an amazing series because it manages to be a gritty procedural and a pained psychological horror at the same time.
