THE PROSColin Farrell is absolutely hypnotic in the lead role, effortlessly carrying the show with a cool, old-school movie star charisma that perfectly fits the classic film noir style. The visual presentation is stunning, using clever editing that cuts in brief clips from classic black-and-white Hollywood detective films directly into the modern-day action. It creates a gorgeous, atmospheric, and highly stylized love letter to cinema that is completely unique to look at. THE CONSThe pacing can feel a bit stop-start, occasionally getting bogged down in its own artsy, slow-burning tone. But the elephant in the room is the massive, high-concept genre twist that drops later in the season. While it is certainly a bold choice that explains a lot of the character's strange quirks, it completely upends the grounded detective story you were invested in, which will undoubtedly alienate viewers who just wanted a straightforward mystery.
