⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY If you think starting a business in middle school is a bit much, you haven’t met Kristy Thomas. The Baby-Sitters Club (2020–2021) is a sincere and witty-ly updated take on the classic Ann M. Martin novels. Set in Stoneybrook, Connecticut, it follows five best friends—Kristy, Mary Anne, Claudia, Stacey, and Dawn—as they launch their own babysitting agency. It’s not just about changing nappies and making snacks; the show handles everything from family divorce and health struggles to social justice and the genuine chaos of growing up. It’s a nostalgic trip for older fans and a top-tier coming-of-age story for a new generation. THE PROS The casting is spot on; each of the girls delivers a 100% authentic performance that makes the 900+ archive of teen dramas feel a bit shallow. It’s a total win for its warmth and intelligence—the show treats its young protagonists with a sincere respect that is rarely seen on screen. The fashion, especially Claudia Kishi’s wardrobe, is a genuine masterclass in style. It witty-ly updates the source material for the modern world without losing the heart of what made the books a success. Each episode feels punchy and purposeful, making the short run a high-octane joy to watch. THE CONS It settles at an 8/10 because, while it’s a good series, it suffered from a massive blow when Netflix pulled the plug after just two seasons.
