⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 9/10 THE SUMMARY Blowing up its own narrative in the best way possible, this soft reboot/third season of AMC's Immortal Universe officially renames the show and hands the microphone to the bratty prince of darkness himself. Infuriated by the publication of Daniel Molloy’s book, Lestat de Lioncourt decides to set the record straight by crashing a local garage band, hijacking them into a massive rock-and-roll stadium tour, and broadcasting the reality of vampires to the world. As his musical fame explodes, Lestat is forced to face his own chaotic past, including memories of his maker, his tragic first love Nicolas, and his deeply problematic, incestuous relationship with his aristocratic mother turned fledgling, Gabriella. THE PROS Sam Reid gives an absolutely legendary, god-tier performance, completely shedding the villain labels of the earlier seasons to present Lestat as a fragile, heartbroken, and wildly magnetic rock star on the verge of a total psychological breakdown. The shift in tone from luxurious Gothic romance to loud, campy, glam-rock spectacle is a total stroke of genius by showrunner Rolin Jones. The music is surprisingly phenomenal, especially the dark earworm "Long Face," while Jennifer Ehle is chillingly brilliant as the detached, intensely manipulative Gabriella, instantly building an electric, deeply disturbing chemistry with Reid. THE CONS It is incredibly over-the-top, deeply unhinged, and occasionally strays wildly far from the literal plot lines of Anne Rice's original text, which might frustrate pure book purists who wanted a straight, page-to-screen adaptation. THE VERDICT An epic 9/10. This is a bold, jaw-dropping piece of horror television that redefines how to handle a television continuation. It proudly earns its 9 because it has the absolute balls to throw its old format in the bin, replacing it with a loud, musically brilliant, and emotionally devastating character study that is impossible to look away from. A towering masterpiece of modern television that is weird, toxic, and utterly unforgettable. INSOMNIAC TRIVIA • Dual Performance: Alongside his starring role as the titular blonde vampire, lead actor Sam Reid also pulled double duty on set this season by playing his own Czech body double, Jarda Klapek.• Musical Brains: The show's catchy, fictional rock songs were co-written by showrunner Rolin Jones alongside multi-talented actor and musician Noah Reid, who also joins the cast this season as a member of Lestat's band.• Structural Changes: While expanding on the book's rock concert framework, the writers seamlessly blended in major lore from other late-era Anne Rice novels, including Queen of the Damned and Merrick, to map out the grand scale of the Great Conversion. THE VIBE Like standing in the front row of a sweaty, packed stadium concert at midnight while a gorgeous, fanged rock star screams bloody poetry into a microphone under blinding neon lights. It smells like stale leather jackets, expensive hairspray, stage smoke, and fresh iron. Loud, chaotic, and completely intoxicating.
