    ⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 8/10 THE SUMMARY Think *Yellowstone* meets *Longmire*, but set in the dizzying heights of Yosemite. *Untamed* (2025–Present) follows Kyle Turner (Eric Bana), a brooding federal agent for the National Park Service who enforces "human law in nature’s vast wilderness." When a body falls off the summit of El Capitan and gets tangled in a climber's ropes, Turner is pulled into a dark conspiracy involving drug trafficking, mining tunnels, and deep-seated local trauma. By April 23, 2026, it is officially the "Manly Balm" of Netflix, having been renewed for a second season almost immediately after its July 2025 debut. THE PROS Eric Bana is a total win; he brings a sincere, "Bear Grylls with a badge" energy to Turner that makes the 900+ archive feel significantly more rugged. Sam Neill as his boss and ally, Captain Souter, is the business—their chemistry provides a grounded, old-school heart to the high-stakes thrills. The show’s biggest win is its visceral opening sequence and the stunning "Yosemite" landscapes (actually filmed in British Columbia), which make the park feel like a beautiful, indifferent god. The tactical realism and the focus on the Investigative Services Branch (ISB) provide a sincere, fresh angle on the tired "small-town murder" trope. THE CONS It is an 8/10 because it can be unapologetically "meat and two veg" in its storytelling, occasionally leaning into tropes that feel a bit like total garbage if you’re looking for high-brow subversion. It misses the 9/10 mark because some of the female characters—aside from Lily Santiago’s capable Naya Vasquez—can feel like a head-scratcher, often existing just to be saved or shown on a mortuary slab. It is also total garbage that we’re still waiting for the 2026 Season 2 premiere date, which has been the #1 question on every Netflix thread this April. For some, the "manly, gruff" stoicism of Turner can feel like a Languid Burn if you aren't in the mood for a protagonist who prefers horses to talking. THE VERDICT An 8/10. It is a genuine, blunt-force thriller that is as beautiful to look at as it is predictably satisfying. I was slightly gutted when the first season ended after only six episodes, but the tight storytelling proved that sometimes less is more. It is total garbage if you want a fast-paced, urban tech-thriller, but as a rugged "outdoorsy" mystery about vengeance and the wild, it’s a vault essential. By April 2026, it’s the show that has everyone wanting to buy a Stetson and move to the mountains—provided they don't mind the occasional falling body.
