⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Ed and Lorraine Warren are back for their third headline outing, but this time they’re trading the classic haunted house for a courtroom drama. Based on the real-life 1981 trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson, the story follows the first time in U.S. history that "demonic possession" was used as a legal defense for murder. The Warrens have to investigate a chilling trail of occult symbols and a mysterious "Occultist" to prove that Arne wasn't just a cold-blooded killer, but a pawn in a much darker game. It’s a shift in gears for the franchise, moving the horror out into the woods and morgues of Connecticut. THE PROS Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga remain the absolute business as the Warrens; their onscreen marriage is so sincere that you’d believe they could banish a demon with a stern look and a hug. The opening exorcism sequence is a total standout—it’s loud, aggressive, and features some bone-crunching physical performances that set a high bar for the rest of the movie. It’s a 7/10 because the "detective" angle is a fresh change of pace, making the investigation feel like a supernatural police procedural. The sound design is top-tier, using every creak and whisper to build a sense of dread that doesn't always rely on a jump scare. John Noble also turns up for a brief but epic bit of casting that adds some serious weight to the occult lore. THE CONS It lands a 7/10 because the middle part can feel a bit sluggish as the movie tries to balance the legal drama with the horror elements.
