⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa), the half-human, half-Atlantean heir to an underwater kingdom, is a total slow-roller when it comes to his royal duties. However, he’s forced into a high-stakes quest to find the legendary Trident of Atlan when his half-brother, King Orm, threatens to wage war against the surface world. Accompanied by the high-quality and fierce Mera (Amber Heard), Arthur travels from the absolute quality depths of the ocean to the Sahara desert. It’s a neon-soaked, high-energy banger that feels more like an underwater *Star Wars* than a standard superhero flick. THE PROS This earns its 7/10 because James Wan’s visual direction is an absolute winner. The underwater world-building is high-quality, featuring legendary sea creatures and neon cities that look absolute quality on the big screen. Jason Momoa is a total win in the lead, bringing a sincere, rock-star energy to the character that makes him a legendary shout for the franchise. The action is a total banger, especially the high-quality roof chase in Sicily which is shot with an honest and impressive sense of momentum. It hits the 7 mark because it isn't afraid to be a bit weird—giant drum-playing octopuses and shark-riding soldiers are absolute quality and a total win for pure escapism. THE CONS It lands a 7/10 because the script is an honest head-shaker in places, filled with quality-deficient dialogue that can feel a bit of a slow-roller. The pacing is an absolute struggle at 143 minutes, with a middle act that feels a touch quality-deficient and overstuffed with exposition.
