⭐ Insomniacs Rating: 7/10 THE SUMMARY Based on the novel by David Koepp (the guy who wrote Jurassic Park), this is a gooey, high-stakes sci-fi horror that feels like a throwback to 80s creature features. Travis (Joe Keery) and Naomi (Georgina Campbell) are just two slackers working the graveyard shift at a massive self-storage facility in Kansas. Little do they know, the sublevels contain a highly contagious, mutating fungus that the government thought they’d tucked away for good. When the containment fails, they have to team up with a grizzled bioterror operative (Liam Neeson) to stop the "fungal apocalypse" before it spreads beyond the facility. It’s a claustrophobic race against time that turns a boring night shift into a bloody fight for survival. THE PROS Joe Keery and Georgina Campbell are great together, bringing a relatable, "normal person" energy to a situation that is absolutely mental. Liam Neeson is top-tier as the cynical, world-weary expert; he’s essentially playing a bioterror version of his usual tough-guy persona, and it works perfectly here. It’s a 7/10 because the practical effects and "goopy" visuals of the fungus are fantastic, making the body horror feel uncomfortably real and tactile. The humor is sharp and landing throughout, especially with the banter between the two guards as they try to process the madness unfolding around them. The first part of the movie builds the tension beautifully, making the storage facility feel like an endless, eerie labyrinth. THE CONS It lands a 7/10 because the plot follows a fairly standard "outbreak" blueprint, so don't expect too many massive surprises in the second half.
